So often our self worth comes from what we do. When ‘what we do' is taken away we are left with an emptiness that can't seemed to be filled. We are lost. Pride steps in and hinders any progress in finding our true self worth. The feeling of being betrayed by those in power, by those who took ‘what we do' away from us becomes so strong that we're unable to move beyond the negative feelings. Betrayal, while it may be truly what happened, is a defense mechanism that keeps us from processing the loss. Betrayal keeps the anger alive and anger stops all further processing of emotion. Until we can get release from these feelings, they will live on within our energy bodies – causing sickness – both emotionally and eventually physically.
So how can we get through the anger and betrayal? The fear that maybe we are worthless and they are right to dismiss us often times lies behind the anger. The fear that we are nothing without a job or ‘what we do' is there. Our entire society and group consciousness is so tied to the belief that ‘what we do' is who we are that when ‘what we do' is taken away we are left with nothing – we no longer have any value. We spend so much of our lives honing and perfecting ‘what we do' that we forget who we are.
It is important to recognize that this is a physical societal value, part of living in this physical world at this time. When we are outside of the physical, when we are in spirit we don't have jobs, we simply are who we are. And in that there is true self worth.
If we find ourselves in this dilemma, having lost ‘what we do' our soul has decided that we are ready to take on this lesson of rediscovering our true worth. We are now ready to move beyond society's values and into spiritual values. Even though it may not feel like an opportunity, we have been given the option of additional soul growth. We've been given the opportunity to re-discover who we truly are and where our self worth actually comes from. Once we can make this shift, life in this physical society becomes easier. We gain a new perspective on what it means to live in a physical body. We can better understand that we are not simply this physical body but simply an inhabitant of it. Who we are expands far beyond it. Our perspective will shift and it becomes easier to wear life and it's struggles like a loose garment, knowing that this physical life is indeed a loose garment and that it will be discarded at some point. And once discarded, we will still exist in our truest essence.
The first step to rediscovering our true self worth is to regain this perspective. To understand once again that we are more than simply ‘what we do'. We are divine beings having a human experience. And as part of that human experience we got caught up in the seeming wholeness of it. We forgot that this is simply one experience in an infinite chain of experiences. It is not our whole selves – simply one experience.
If the sense of betrayal and accompanying anger that came with this loss proves too difficult to get beyond, prayer for those who provided this experience is a very effective way to rid ourselves of the negative emotions. Even though it is very difficult to pray for someone who took away ‘what we do' it is a most effective method. Everyday for two weeks, we ask the God of our understanding, the Universal Spirit to grant those who have harmed us all of their hopes and dreams. Whenever we find bitterness or anger in our mind towards those persons, we repeat this prayer. It is amazing how the feelings will be released and we'll be able to move on from these negative emotions in a very short time. Early in the process it may be difficult to put any real intention behind the prayer but it's important that it be done anyway – however insincere it may be at first. After a few days, it will become easier. And after two weeks, we will be amazed that the negative emotions are gone.
We can then begin once again to discover our true worth, the process of remembering our divine self.
